Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the American Federation of Teachers convention in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, energizing educators for the upcoming battle against former President Donald Trump and his "extreme allies."
At this moment, our nation faces a full-scale assault on our hard-won freedoms," Harris declared. "As you teach students about democracy and representative government, extremists are attacking the fundamental right to vote. While you strive to create safe and welcoming environments for our children, extremists are undermining our freedom to live without the threat of gun violence."
Harris emphasized the importance of passing gun safety laws, noting Republican efforts to counteract these initiatives.
We are fighting for our most fundamental freedoms," Harris proclaimed. "To this room of leaders, I say, bring it on. Bring it on. Bring it on."
Harris contrasted this fight for freedoms with Project 2025, the conservative presidential transition blueprint.
We are clear-eyed," Harris said. "As we work to build a brighter future and move our nation forward, there are those who seek to take us backward. I'm sure you've seen their agenda, Project 2025?" Her mention of the project was met with strong boos from the audience.
Harris described Project 2025 as "a plan to return America to a dark past.
